The Mac OS X 10.7.1 Server dmg file you have downloaded is a bootable image for creating a virtual Mac OS X Server system in the Mac OS x family. It contains the Mac OS X 10.7 server software, which you can use to run many services on your Mac without installing them yourself, such as Apache, MySQL, and BIND DNS servers. Once installed, these servers will run in the background, so you can use other Mac apps, such as iChat or iCal, even when the server is not running. The server runs as an independent partition of your Mac so it can be started alongside other applications. The good news is that the command-line tools are available for installing and using these servers without installing them on the boot volume. If you are interested in learning more about running these servers on a boot volume, follow this link to learn how to install Apache 2.4.x on your Mac OS X 10.7 or 10.6 system using command-line tools only. (NOTE: This guide is a work in progress. Keep checking back for more detailed information on how to use the Server.app GUI and other information on how to use the Server app.) Here is a screenshot of what you should see when this image has been mounted as an .app file, as well as what it looks like once it's been opened from within Finder. Here is a screenshot of what you should see when this image has been mounted as an .dmg file,as well as what it looks like once it's been opened from within Finder:On your Mac computer open Disk Utility and select to start up from this disk "Mac OS X Lion Server 10.7.1". You should see a screen similar to the following where you have the option to set up a multi-boot array. To create a bootable clone of your system running Mac OS X, click on the "Restore" tab and then choose "Mirror" from the duplicate menu. This will make a perfect copy of your hard drive. In order to make sure you don't lose any data from either drive, select each drive and select "Duplicate" from their respective menus, then mount both drives into a suitable folder on your computer. You can choose which ever mountable disk you wish to be your bootable server partition. You can then boot your computer by holding down the "C" key while powering on the system. To use the Server.app GUI to install these services, you can do so by opening up a Finder window, clicking on the Applications folder in the sidebar and clicking the "Server.app" application. Then simply follow instructions given in order to install these services, set up DNS settings, etc.. Once completed, you are ready to go! To stop using one of these servers you can either log back into your Mac using admin privileges or select "/usr/sbin/apachectl -k graceful" from a command line within your bootable container in order to end this service. cfa1e77820
