This dialogue took place before the start of Mahabharata war. The Bhagwat Gita is an extended dialogue between the Supreme Lord (Krishna) and Arjun. It is a Sanskrit text that contains teachings of Hindu Vedanta philosophy . The central idea in the text is that it provides the knowledge to become one with God. The text consists of 700 shlokas or verses each of which are connected to a larger philosophical idea. Bhagwat Gita = 18 chapters, composed of 700 shlokas divided into 18 chapters by Krishna and Arjun, who are two sides of the same coin, so to speak. This is part of an eternal dialogue between Sat or Brahman , Shiva or Purusha , and Isvara /Shaivism . Isvara , who is both the teacher and student in this dialogue, is a partial manifestation of Brahman . He teaches the need for liberation from material existence and he is non-different from his own self or Atman . This text teaches that one should do such karma (vows) which will help realize the Purusha (Spirit). The fruits of Karma will be obtained by all but only those with knowledge will attain freedom from rebirth. The Bhagwat Gita was written by Vyasa, a Hindu sage and philosopher . He is regarded to have been born in approximately 9th century BC. He wrote this text around 3rd century BC. The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most famous texts from the Hindu scripture called Mahabharata. It is a conversation between Krishna and Arjuna, two great warriors who fought for control over a kingdom called Bharata, which in Sanskrit means "the land of the people of Bharata," which in turn means "the people who descend from Bharata," an ancestor of both Krishna and Arjuna who was the son of King Dushyanta and Shakuntala. cfa1e77820
